About Sage Decoded
As licensed medical professionals, we recognize the gap in traditional medical training when it comes to the Endocannabinoid System. Yet nearly 2 million North Americans legally use cannabis to manage a medical condition.
So where is the disconnect?
As both a registered nurse and patient, our founder Nicole S. Brown, has firsthand experience with the lack of accurate information surrounding medical cannabis.
She knows the pain families go through as they desperately try to find treatment for chronic pain, seizures, cancer symptoms, and mental health issues. Plus, she also struggles with anxiety herself.
After trying a number of prescribed pharmaceutical drugs to manage her anxiety, she turned to alternative options. Cannabis was the only thing that controlled her symptoms without a host of side effects.
However, even as a registered nurse, it was hard to figure out which strain of cannabis to use and how to use it safely. After a lot of research (and some trial and error), she was able to create a cannabis treatment plan that worked for her.
Nicole took that experience and turned it into Sage Decoded.
Driven by the desire to empower both patients and healthcare providers, Sage Decoded provides evidence-based education for optimizing individualized treatment with medical cannabis.
We work with our clients, educating them on the cannabis options, how they affect the body systems, and how to create a safe dosing plan that’s customized to their specific needs.
Nicole S. Brown, RN, BSN is a registered nurse with more than 14 years of experience in various healthcare settings. She is the founder of Sage Decoded and is committed to educating and advocating for patients and providers as they learn to safely treat a host of conditions with medical cannabis.
Nicole began her professional nursing career in adult medical and surgical, both with the general public and on a secure correctional unit. She then transitioned to working extensively with the pediatric population including inpatient pediatrics, outpatient pediatric offices, inner-city pediatric medical daycare centers, pediatric homecare, and in pediatric sleep medicine.
As Nicole worked to provide passionate care for her patients, a natural crossover between her professional and personal life began. After trying different prescription drugs to manage her personal anxiety, Nicole began looking into medical cannabis, but quickly realized there was very little information available on how to use it safely and effectively. After a lot of research (and some trial and error), she was able to create a cannabis treatment plan that worked for her and Sage Decoded was born.
Nicole understands the importance of sharing her knowledge of the Endocannabinoid System in the body, application of medical cannabis for a variety of medical conditions, the components of the cannabis plants, and the importance of advocacy to de-stigmatize and legalize cannabis in the United States.
Nicole has received her cannabis certificate from the Training Academy of Medical Cannabis in 2020. She is also a current member of Virginia NORML, American Cannabis Nurses Association, Cannabis Nurses Network, and Cannabis Nurses of Color.
